The great Galliano returned to the runway in London today. After his “leave” as Artistic Director of Christian Dior, his stint in rehab and his study of Judaism – What a difference those years made on him and his design aesthetic.
The collection was built on deconstructing menswear and the transparency of layering different textures and fabrics. It was a reflection on the actual metamorphosis of Maison Margiela being deconstructed from the old and recycled and redesigned to launch a new vision for Maison Margiela.
It was deeply transparent and illustrated his trials and tribulations he had experienced in the last couple of years. I love collections that really reveal so much about the designer and where they have been or going in their emotional life and this was definitely one of those shows.
The “Artisanal” collection has been created by Maison Margiela over the years by seeing beauty in things that are often taken for granted in everyday life and giving them a newly enriched life by using them in a completely new way.
I love second, third chances in life… I love forgiveness and the chance to recreate your life. I think this was such a spiritual collection rooted deep in the need to change and become a better person and designer.
BRAVO, GALLIANO! can’t wait for the ENCORE!
